This course is designed to give candidates the knowledge and understanding they need to operate CAT and Genny equipment safely and accurately, and have anunderstanding of how to acquire service drawings and detect underground service locations successfully. This Cable Avoidance and Service Location (CAT and Genny) training course is designed for any person working on road construction or maintenance, as well as those involved in surveying or excavating areas where pipes or cables may be hidden underground.
The course covers the following topics:
- Health and safety legislation
- Safe working procedures for working in or near underground services
- CAT and Genny operating principles
- How to locate underground services
- Limitations of equipment and services information
- Maintenance and onsite checks for CAT and Genny equipment
- Understanding service drawings
In addition, the course features a number of practical training exercises.
A short written paper and assessed practical will be used to measure attainment of objectives.
