HSE guidance on lift truck training and COVID precautions
Following the announcement of the latest national lockdown, the HSE has confirmed its stance on the continuation of lift truck training at this time.
The guidance reiterates that employers must continue to ensure that staff are trained and competent to operate any industrial lift truck equipment that they use, and that until this training has been carried out and operating standards confirmed, operators should not be authorised to use these trucks.
It also provides a hierarchy of control to help manage the associated risks, which begins by asking employers to consider the urgency of the training (based on operators’ competency/experience), and goes on to suggest numerous control measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission as it is carried out.
